Welcome to Issue 4 of Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island News

This issue we have an article announcing the new Indigepass and indigenous tours to Fraser Island. As i am typing this newsletter the Fraser Island Aboriginal People are holding and Indigefest to announce the launch of the passes and tours to the Island and providing an interesting selection of native food for all to sample.

We can expect to here more of this in the media over the next few weeks.

Introducing the new Indigepass to Fraser Island

Indigenous Tours are commencing, with an indigenous guide

The Indigepass is issued under the authority of Elder John Dalundalee Jones of the Dalungbara Aboriginal people of Fraser Island, representing the Dalungbara, Ngulungbara and the majority of the Batchala Aboriginal peoples of Fraser Island.
(pursuant to representation order, Supreme Court of QLD 1997)

The Indigepass is approximately half the cost of the permits from the QLD Parks and Wildlife service.

Fraser Island Ownership

Fraser Island is owned by the above three Aboriginal peoples of Fraser Island as their possessory and Aboriginal titles have never been extinguished.

This is referred to in the Commission of Enquiry into the conservation, management and use of Fraser Island and the Great Sandy Region Supplementary Volume, Volume 1, Part 1 May 1991.

This submission to the UNESCO World Heritage Convention
was prepared for the QLD government by
Barrister Justin Malbon and others,
prerequisite to Fraser Island being "World Heritage Listed".
